The Voice 1994 – now: How the path evolved

The Voice Inc. was established in June 1994 by Rev. Moses Sowale in Isara Remo, Ogun State, Nigeria, driven by a profound concern for social justice and the inequalities faced by diverse socio-economic and political groups. This visionary journey began with a pivotal conversation among four friends, laying the foundation for an organization inspired by the biblical mandate of Isaiah 40:1-5, which calls for comfort and raising up the marginalized among God’s people.

Initially launched as a ministry of Help, The Voice set out to bridge the gaps between individuals with differences. Its core mission embraced the empowerment of individuals to claim their identity in all circumstances, encouraging accountability, fostering the maximization of potential, creating safe spaces for belonging, advocating for social justice, and addressing fundamental human needs. Over the years, The Voice has touched the lives of more than 500 individuals globally, including children, young adults, married couples, singles, and pastors.

The organization has expanded its outreach, serving local and international communities such as Lagos, Sagamu, Ibadan, Igbesi in Kwara State, Haiti, Boston, Brockton in the USA, and St. Vincent and the Grenadines. A significant partnership with Grace Chapel Episcopal and Anglican Church in Brockton led to the establishment of two impactful programs: The Brigade Youth Program and The Abigails Women’s Project.

A transformative moment in Rev. Sowale’s journey occurred when his son was diagnosed with autism. This personal challenge became an opportunity for profound growth, emphasizing the values of patience and understanding. Rev. Sowale’s experiences reshaped his perspective on disability and Christian empowerment, refining The Voice’s mission to embrace inclusivity fully.

In November 2023, Rev. Sowale made a pivotal decision to transition from traditional parish ministry to focus exclusively on supporting individuals and families with special needs. This commitment broadened The Voice’s mission, adopting a new direction that centers on transforming lives through a faith-driven, customized, and results-oriented approach.

In 2020, The Mirror LLC was established alongside The Voice Inc. to continue the vital work of mentoring and discipleship. Together, they form a global community dedicated to empowering individuals with disabilities and their families through advocacy, mentoring, and enrichment programs.

The Voice is firmly committed to fostering identity development, educational enrichment, spirituality, and social connections for individuals of all abilities. The organization endeavors to create a supportive environment where every person is recognized for their inherent value and can contribute meaningfully to society.

Initially, The Voice operated from a modest office in Ibadan, Nigeria, offering counseling, library services, and spiritual guidance. During its registration process, it adopted the name “Fingerprint,” symbolizing the uniqueness of every individual it serves.

As a registered entity in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, The Voice has earned notable accolades, including the Jonathan Daniel Award from the Episcopal Divinity School in 2013 and the Outstanding Faith, Justice, and Leadership Award from the South Shore Leadership Conference in 2016.

Today, The Voice Inc., also known as Fingerprint, stands as a powerful testament to solidarity and empowerment, positively impacting countless individuals and families while championing equity and acceptance for all.
